Specify default code

To specify a default code:

  1. Click in the coding field.
  2. If you have favourites set up for this code type, select a code from the drop-down list that displays. Favourite codes are denoted by a solid star Star, gold solid.
  3. To remove a favourite from the list, click Star, gold solid.

Note: The favourite doesn't disappear immediately – allowing you to change your mind – but it won’t be there the next time you click the same coding field.

  4. If you don't have favourites set up for this code type, or none of the favourite codes are appropriate:
    1. Select Search codes from the bottom of the drop-down list.

      The Search codes pane appears.

    2. If you know the value of the code you are searching for, type it in the Code Value field.
    3. If you do not know the code value but know the description of the code, type it in the Description field.
    4. If you want to search for all available codes, including invalid codes, disable the Show valid codes only toggle. Otherwise, leave it enabled to display valid codes only.
    5. Click the Search button.

The system returns the first 60 codes it finds that match your search criteria. If more than one page of codes is returned, navigation at the bottom of the pane allows you to move between pages. If the code you are searching for is not returned in this list, you need to narrow your search criteria.

To help you further, you can search using the wildcard character "%" anywhere in your search text. For example, "ABC%1" will find any code starting with "ABC" and with the number "1" located anywhere within it, for example, "ABC00100".

    6. From the list of returned codes, hover over a code and either click:
      • Select to close the Search codes pane and add the code to the coding field.
      • Favourite or Unfavourite to mark the code as a favourite, or if already a favourite, unfavourite the code.
      • Info to display any additional description for the code and any code manager(s) set against the code by an administrator. When additional information is displayed, re-click Info to hide the information.
    7. If you didn't add the code to your favourites via the Search codes pane, you can still do it via the coding field by clicking Star, gold outline.
  5. To clear a coded value, click White cross in grey circle beside it.
